The Garden Club committee decided to expand its programme by introducing a Horticultural & Produce Show in 2012. This was well supported and has shown an increasing number of entries each year. These include a variety of vegetables, fruit and flowers in the Horticultural Section and cakes, bread, preserves, pickles etc. in the Cookery and Preserves section.
The “William Barron Trophy”
This is awarded for the highest total score in the vegetables and fruit categories: the “Elvaston Cookery Cup” for the exhibitor with the highest number of points in the Cookery and Preserves classes: the “Harrington Rose Bowl” for the highest number of points in the Flower class and the “Elvaston Junior Cup” and rosettes for the Children’ Under 11 classes.
Every September
The show takes place in early September with schedules available nearer the date. Entries are accepted on the morning of the show until mid-day when judging takes place. The show opens to the public at 2pm, with a light hearted auction of most of the entries at 3pm. Coffee, tea, cakes etc. are available throughout the day.
This is your parish event so please show your support by entering as many classes as possible, by sampling coffee and cake, by bidding at the auction or by just coming along to see the exhibits.
